Rose & Two Thorns

Seniors and Ladies at Brett Vale GC held the annual “Rose & Two Thorns” competition on 9th August, an event for teams of three comprising two Seniors Men and one Lady member, with best two stableford scores counting.

The event had been sponsored by the now late Bill Ray, a Senior Member who had always enjoyed this format and had generously donated funds prior to his death to ensure its’ continuation.
Scoring was close on a lovely sunny morning, with the top three teams all finishing with 83 points, but having scored 44 points on the back-nine holes, the winning team was Patsy Grimsey, Dave Kilby  and Barry Root (photo below receiving the trophy from Club Ladies Captain, Catherine Le Tue.

Memorial Golf Competition held on 28th September

Brett Vale Seniors held a Memorial Golf Competition on 28th September  in memory of John Barnett, a popular member of the club who had sadly passed away suddenly, with a special trophy donated by close friend Andrew Burl for the winner.  This new competition will be held annually in John’s memory.

This stableford competition was won by Peter Turner  with an impressive 46 points, and the photo shows him being presented with the trophy by Michelle Barnett, John’s widow, who attended the presentations with members of her family. There were several prizes for runners-up and a number of Nearest The Pin winners, which had kindly been donated by club members and colleagues.
During the day various fund raising took place with proceeds being donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK, including an auction of various items by member Barry Root, and approximately £1000 was raised for the charity.
